Jack goes to a birthday party

Jack's first outing to a party was for Patrick's 2nd birthday - the eldest son of Michal, another of Jayne's friends from aquanatal. We met up with Terri and Robin again and had a lovely day. Jack also had a fine demonstration from Patrick on what to do with birthday cake, as the pics will show...

Brian with little Brendan (Michal's husband and youngest son), plus to the left, Russ and Robin. In the middle, Jack is getting a cuddle from Jenny who, if I remember rightly, is Brian's mum/mom.

Jack wonders why his dungaree strap keeps getting in his face!

Cake time! Patrick gets his hands straight in!

Mom suggests he blow out his candles

A somewhat caked-up Patrick applauds himself!

Yes Jack. This is how to eat birthday cake!

Mummy and Jack (sucking his thumb without poking his eyes out, thanks to Mummy's arm!)

A couple of lovely shots. :)

Like father like son...

Some shots to compare and contrast...

We wonder if these next shots of Adam are anything like what we can expect from Jack as he grows...

Aww!

Double aww!

And now for the six o'clock news...!

Jack's first shots

August 14

Later the same day it was time for Jack's first immunisations. He checked out A-okay with the doctor, weighing a perfect 10lb 15.5oz and measuring 23 inches long.

Jack pinches Dady's nose while he waits for the doctor!

Little did the happy chappy know what was to come next...

The response to being vaccinated was exactly as the doctor described. Little Jack first opened his eyes super wide, and then a second or two after the first needle went in started to scream... and we really mean screeeeeam... thankfully for only a minute or so until it was all over. A big cuddle and a feed with Mummy and everything was much better.

All packed up ready to go home. Jack shows what he thinks of his first shots!

A slight temperature that evening was the only side effect we saw in Jack. Hooray! Hopefully the next ones will go as well in a couple of months time.
Oooh yes, and I think as an effect of all the exertions of being upset plus the extra comfort feeding Jack slept right through for the first time!

Libby's again!

Aug 14

The day after Jack's play date was the last opportunity for a trip to Libby's for brunch before the Grands Lock went home. He was actually awake for most of this, unlike the first time when he slept right through.

Jack wears his patriotic "I love the USA" outfit for his first awake trip to Libby's, our favourite all American diner

Daddy and Jack place their order... mine's a large milky please!

A tired boy eventually falls asleep... despite being right next to where a lot of crockery was being stacked by a none-too-careful watress!

Jack's first play date

August 13

Jack had two older women to entertain for his first play date! Little Samara is a week older then he is, and Robin is a few months older. Jayne got to know their Mums, Vanessa and Terri, during her aquanatal classes in the months before Jack's arrival. A fun time was had by all.

Jack and Samara check each other out

Jack and Samara play copycat!

Samara strikes a pose, Jack wonders if he can get his whole hand in his mouth and Robin has a giggle all to herself!

Pretty maids (plus Jack!) all in a row

Jack conks out after his girls leave :) This was his first time in his lovely sleep sack from Auntie Amanda and Uncle Bob too. Thanks guys! It's super.

Splishy splashy!

Jack, like his Dad, loves a good wallow in the tub. We need to get some better bathtime pics but here are a couple Adam's mum took when she was here.

Rub-a-dub-dub... Jack's in the tub! He doesn't use the hammock anymore Granny Lock... he's now into full blown splashing in a 'hammock-free' tub!

There... all clean and cosy in his ducky towel.

Got milk?

Most of you in the UK will not be aware of this, but there is a major "Got Milk?" campaign here in the USA to encourage consumers of all ages to drink more milk. http://www.gotmilk.com/

Jack has started up his own campaign...

He's going to be a thumb sucker

Well, with two parent's who were avid thumb suckers what choice does the poor boy have? All Jack has to do now is master getting his thumb stuck out for sucking, while keeping his fingers tucked safely out the way... at the moment he can suck his thumb but only by nearly poking his eyes out at the same time, poor love.

Jack's second bottle feed

Jack is only likely to ever need an occasional bottle but we thought it would be wise to practice ahead of time. This went somewhat more successfully than the first attempt, thank goodness, and Jack has since enjoyed a bottle of mother's best here and there.

Glug, glug...

Any burpies?

Bootee Call!

Jack has been lucky enough to receive a fine array of bootees and slippers, which he thought he'd model for you... okay, so Mummy thought it would be a good idea... he was very pleased to be wearing them all tho. And all in one day too! :)

Thanks Jana and Chris for my lovely stripey elephant slippers. They're super-cosy!

Thanks Sue and Ken for my snuggly bear slippers. They'll be lovely for my first VT winter!

Such beautifully handcrafted bootees from Aunty Karin.

And an equally lovely second pair - Jack is in a quandary which to wear for his Christening in November... Probably these ones since they're slightly larger than the first pair.

Another lovely pair from our neighbour Paul, made by his mother.

And last but no means least... Jack's super-cool dino-Robeez from Beth! We reckon these will be his dancing shoes because he went crazy kicking his little leggies around once he got these on. C'mon, get yer knees up!

A walk in Oakledge Park

August 9th

We decided to make the most of a sunny but not too hot day and take a walk around Oakledge Park. It's really nice around there with lots of picnic tables, built-in barbecues etc and even has a little beach on the lakeside... there were plenty of girls out in bikinis sunbathing, and families building sandcastles and swimming. It will be a lovely spot to take Jack when he's bit older and for some summer parties too. :)

Jack looks thoughtful in his car seat - he's fitting in a bit more snugly now... in fact, at time of writing (two and a bit weeks after this was taken) he no longer needs the little padded inserts!

Jack snoozes while Daddy and Grandad Lock explore down by the lakeside

We discover a tree house!

... Easily accessible too.

Pretty cool with the tree coming right up through the middle. It could really do with a climbing rope and a big slide somewhere tho...
