Farm Horse Day at Shelburne Farms

On 26th July Shelburne Farms held a Farm Horse day which we were quite interested to go along to. They had a nice display of olde worlde farming techniques and machinery using horses, which Adam and his Dad particularly enjoyed. Here are a few snaps of it all...

Rosemary takes a pew while John, Adam, Jayne and Jack venture forth...

Horse-drawn hay kicker
(for some reason blogger wants to put this photo in sideways!?)

John goes in for a closer look and a chat while they detangle hay from the kickers - this piece of kit was almost the same as one John can remember using back on the farm in Devon (attached to a tractor tho)

A slightly newer piece of equipment pulled by two trusty steeds sets the hay into neat rows

Adam watching with Jack who was sleeping beneath his sun/bug screen

A steam powered baler

John takes a look at an old wooden binder

An old finger mower in action

Yes... you guessed it... the good ol' dung spreader! John Deere btw.
