The best bit of all!

Well, the new ticker gives it away for any of you that don't know yet, but on Sunday 7th October 2007 we got the best news of our lives... a long-awaited and glorious BFP! (that's 'Big Fat Positive' if you can't work it out).

Hmm... tmi? Sorry if you didn't want to see the actual p-stick!

Three blood tests taken on the Mon, Wed and Fri confirmed that Jayne's hCG levels were doing exactly what they're supposed to in early pregnancy so yes, we were definitely pregnant! :) :) :)

On 22nd October (around 6 weeks) we had our very first scan to make sure everything was ok in there...

Probs obvious to many of you, but if not, the big black blob is the amniotic sac, the smaller black blob within that is the yolk sac and the teeny white blob at the end of the arrow is Beanie Bubs. Officially 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant.

The next scan was on 5th November. We'll save you the details but suffice it to say it was a traumatic day for us. First doctor (not our regular ob/gyn btw) told us we'd almost definitely lost the baby and then when the second doctor came to confirm it, she said, "Nope, everything's fine. Baby has a heart beat of 162bpm and is looking great." What planet was that other chap on?? Anyway, all's well that ends well and once more we were so very relieved to know that everything was going well.

Bubs has grown a fair bit since last time

The next scan was an unexpected surprise after our routine check up on 27th November. The doctor had been unable to find the heart beat with the doppler (not unusual at 11 weeks) so we got to see Bubs again as well as hear him/her. Bonus!

We actually had another routine scan on 3rd December which was super - the sonographer (Frank) flicked on the heat sensitive capabilities of the machine to show the blood pumping through the umbilical cord - wonderful to see. Adam was unable to make this appointment because he was teaching but Frank captured 5 incredible images for him. We haven't been able to scan those ones in tho.

Now we're just wondering how many $$s we'll have to slip Frank for him to show us a snazzy 4D image of Jnr!?

So, all has been going well, and touch wood it continues to do so. Jayne has only had nausea and no actual throwing up which is good by all accounts... the trick to keeping the sickness at bay has been to eat something every two hours max and sleep when you need it - thank goodness for working from home!

Next scan is scheduled for this evening (14th Jan) so we're very excited/anxious to see the little one again.

John and I have just spent a magical month over Xmas and New Year with Adam and Jayne in their
wonderful new house - made all the more exciting by their wonderful news. For all you travellers Vermont is wonderful in the winter
with lots to see and do and if you are into skiing Adam and Jayne are
only l hour drive to the wonderful ski resorts of Stowe, Sugar Bush and Killington. We cannot wait until our next visit in July to meet the new member of the family.
Lots of love to everybody from
Mum and Dad Lock from a very wet
Devon.
